Hello friends. I hope you’ve been doing well. I can’t believe it’s already November and this my first Christmas post of the year.
Today I wanted to show you how to make these faux iron patina ornaments. I was inspired by some I saw on Studio McGee.
I think I was able to achieve the look I was going for.
These are plastic ornaments which I got from Michaels.
I started by mixing some black acrylic paint and some baking soda to give them a rough texture.
Once dried, I randomly added bronze and gold paint. I rubbed it with my hand and as I did that, the texture of the black and baking soda started to
appear.
I then added tiny bits of turquoise paint to add to the patina and lastly, while the paint was still wet, I sprinkled some cinnamon to resemble rust.
This part is optional
Here is a video showing you how I did it.
I also painted the little hook of the ornament with bits of black to tie it all in.
I think the little ones look like they have been unearth from the ground. 🙂

Once the ornaments are cut out, you’ll need to start coating them with rust-colored paint. This can be done in a variety of ways, but the simplest way is to simply dip the ornaments in the paint and then let them dry.

Start by washing your ornament in warm soapy water. Dry it off and then apply a liberal coating of petroleum jelly to the ornament’s surface. Let the jelly sit for a few minutes so that the oil can seep into the metal. Then, using steel wool or rough cloth, start rubbing the ornament in a circular motion.
