Hello friends. I hope you had a great weekend. The weather has been up and down here. It snowed for two days and then it was sunny and warm and then rainy and cool….(?) I know it’s been a while since I last posted. I don’t remember April’s weather being so up and down…
It’s been a little difficult to create content as we’re back to a full lock down here in Ontario and most stores are closed. š But I was itching to give the built-ins a little change. So here’s a little Black Built-ins Shelf Decor.
I wasn’t sure if you could even see the difference but my family assures me that you can. I went with black because that’s the one color I had at home.Ā
I also removed the logs. As much as I like them, they had been there for a while now and I needed a little change….
I’m not sure if you can tell, but I painted the sides of the shelves white. The blue used to go all the way to the corner. Hubby thinks I should paint it all black. What do you think?

I collected all my busts and I think they look kinda cool there. Hubby mentioned how if it was him decorating, he would only have the one. I might try and see. Sometimes less is more..:)Ā
The very large one is an outdoor planter that I got a couple of months ago before everything closed back up.
The LADY bust is from HERE and the littlest one is from HERE. Though I really thought it was going to be much bigger lol.Ā
I ordered a mirror for the mantel but it’s not back in stock until May 30 š But I know it’ll be worth the wait…
I also ordered a couple of THESE Sherpa pillows from Amazon.Ā They are very affordable and so in right now.Ā

I was just admiring the way you put all the busts on one shelf when I got to the part where hubby thought you only needed one. Both would be fine, but I like having the collection together.

Looks great Lucy. Sorry to hear about more lock downs there. I so wish this was over. I wish people cared more about others too. On a happier note I think the busts are wonderful together as a grouping. If they were all huge in size maybe not but they are perfect. Brody does fit right into the color scheme. Maybe you could do some classes on drawing or painting dog faces? I’m trying to find time to learn more about painting flowers too.

I like the busts but unequal numbers seem to be recommended so maybe move one. I also can’t determine where the white paint is, but I love the black. Good choice.

I have an overflow of books to use, no busts, but some vases, candles and candlesticks, items bought and accumulated over more than 40 years of living in apartments and then my own homes. I found the photo of your fireplace and bookcases on Pinterest today and just love the black wall and bookshelves. I will definitely be trying out some arrangements based on your “less is more” theme, as I usually treat a bookshelf like a public library shelf – jammed with books and items from my horse, pink elephant and decorative egg collections. In my “library/office” small room, that’s fine because nobody sees it but me, but I want a little more style for the living room. During the winters I spend a lot of time in the room in the evenings because I have the fireplace going. The black is both elegant and cozy at the same time and I am fully in love with the look.
