Hello Craftberry Bush friends, its Annie here from Zevy Joy. I have been looking forward to joining you here as we approach the holidays as this is my favorite time of year! Today’s project is one that is festive and perfect for all those delicious dinners shared around the table. It’s a DIY painted geometric table runner. I was inspired by all the modern pillows I have seen around the decor stores and thought it would be fun to make a runner instead. Of course, I had to make it season-ready with some metallic paint though ;).
Here is what you will need to make one yourself…
- A cloth table runner (I found mine in the dollar section at Target) or you can make one yourself with fabric.
- Paint brush
- Masking tape (a thinner width is best as you can make more lines this way)
- Metallic fabric paint (most craft stores carry this)
- Wax paper or cardboard (not pictured here) to protect paint from coming through onto the surface you are painting on.
Now to make on yourself you will…
Before hand, you will want to read the directions for your specific fabric paint and you may also want to think about pre washing your fabric. Tape off the lines that you want to paint. I just did this by eye and didn’t worry to much about how exact it would be. I wanted some lines to be thicker than other and to cross over each other at times. I didn’t do the best in my high school Geometry class so don’t expect there to be a rhyme or reason to the angles here, lol… Make sure to put wax paper or cardboard underneath your cloth before painting.
Now begin painting in the lines. If you pressed down tightly you shouldn’t have to worry too much about paint bleeding through. Cover the lines with paint as much as you can and it’s ok if it’s not perfect, again I like the worn look of things sometimes.
Once it has dried, carefully remove the tape. There will be some gaps you need to fill in by hand with your paint too. Then you will need to follow the directions on how to treat your finished cloth. Mine required a heat set with a cloth and iron. And there you have it!
A pretty glittery runner all set for the upcoming holiday celebrations!
It is a simple but pretty way to dress up your table and doesn’t require much fuss.
As seen here it works with a simple (thrifted) pitcher of fall foliage. Because of the design it can really stand on it’s own.
It can be turned to hang off the table…
Or flipped to lay along the table. Either way, I hope you will have fun with it. Set either with dressy plates or everyday dishware this table runner is sure to make your table a big hit.
As usual, it’s affordable and easy to make. My daughter Evy even joined in on the painting fun and was so proud to see it displayed ;).
This could also easily be used for pillow cases and make such a dramatic statement on a sofa with twinkling lights in the background.
Thank you so much having me Lucy and thank you all for joining me here. Please let me know if you try it out and have a wonderful week ahead!
