Is there a particular flavour or aroma that takes you back to your childhood days, when your only care in the world was making fairy gardens or mud pies?
For me it’s the smell of cotton candy. I remember clearly walking through the crowded aisles
of the flea market with my abuelita and feeling a little overwhelmed by all the activity around us.
But knowing that our final destination would take me to magical pink sugar threads, being spun into edible clouds. Their scent filling the air and making everything else around me disappear.
Last week the kiddies had a day off from school and I thought it would be the perfect chance to make them some yummy cotton candy flavoured popcorn. The only problem is actually finding the cotton candy flavour. You can order the sugar floss on line or even order cotton candy flavouring on Amazon, but having to pay for shipping and having to wait kinda defeated the purpose. So I decided I would try something a little unorthodox and give it a go.
I purchased prepackaged cotton candy, available
at Walmart and mixed it right in and guess what? it worked!
Cotton Candy Popcorn
Ingredients
1/2 cup unpopped popcorn
1 cup white chocolate chips or candy melts
oil – about 2 Tablespoons
1 tub of pink prepackaged cotton candy (14g)
Sprinkles (optional)
Directions
1.Pop kernels using your preferred method of choice
2. Melt white chocolate in microwavable safe bowl in 15-20 second intervals.
Stir in between until chocolate is melted.
3. Allow chocolate to cool slightly and stir in the cotton candy. Mix until cotton candy is dissolved.
4.Add popcorn to mixture and stir until all ingredients are well incorporated.
5. Allow to dry on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper.
Serve and enjoy!
Fun right? and I was once again the hero of the day! 🙂
The little confetti sugar hearts also help the cuteness factor, don’t you think?
