Hello. I’m so glad you could make it!
Our home is stop number 14 in the Everything Home Christmas tours.
We’re halfway done and I hope you have been enjoying yourself; I know I have.
If this is your first time here, welcome. To my old friends, welcome back.
Please come in and make yourself at home as I share
PART 1 of our home, dressed up for the holidays.
Our Christmas decor is simple and humble this year as I once again
learned how very easy it is to lose sight of what this season is truly about.
I started wanting more, newer, better and in the process became frustrated,
discouraged and angry. I soon realized my desire for the material things
I couldn’t have were robbing not only myself of JOY, but my family also.
I was completely missing the point of the holidays and so
as you enter our home, I hope you feel showered with the true
meaning of the season. LOVE, PEACE and JOY.
I used the same lanterns from last season (here) but placed shatterproof bulbs
inside. I love the way they shimmer in the light and that brings me JOY. 🙂
inside. I love the way they shimmer in the light and that brings me JOY. 🙂
As you enter our home, you will see the beautiful bench hubby
built for me (more on that here). I love that we have a place to
drop our keys, hang our coats and put our shoes away.

drop our keys, hang our coats and put our shoes away.
Well, shoes are put away most of the time. Having three children, scattered
shoes at the front door comes with the territory, but we’re working on it…:)

Decorating for the holidays doesn’t have to be complicated as the
simplicity of nature is perfection These berries make me smile every time
I see them, although I’m not sure hubby shares the same sentiment as I
made him park at the side of the road and cut some for me. These beautiful
little dainty berries have vicious thorns all over their stems. eek.
Oh, don’t mind him. He’s my little shadow – Brody. He tends to follow
me around all day, so you will probably see him in a picture or two.
me around all day, so you will probably see him in a picture or two.
Here is a view of our living room from the stairs so you can picture the space better.
Our tree is snowy and fluffly and I love it!
As you can see, I decided to go with a woodland/cabin theme and used
beautiful patterns of tartan and plaid. Old crates and an apple
bushel hold presents, pine cones and other little items to add interest.
I placed some dried birch branches we picked during our
walks and the ‘ribbon’ around the tree is not really a ribbon,
but several scarves I purchased at the Dollar Store…:)
Here it is all shiny and bright at night.
I love displaying items that have meaning to our family, like this
old freight crate that belonged to my late father-in-law and the
vintage camera which hubby has had for many, many years.

vintage camera which hubby has had for many, many years.
You might have noticed that deer are everywhere this year…
I mean, everywhere.
I will probably hang a wreath around his neck, but for now,
he coordinates with the rest of the living room. Looking sharp.
Our home has an open plan, with the dining room and
living room sharing one large space (more on that on Friday)
In the mean time, here is a little peek at the hutch…
Simple beauty.
You will of course need a little hot cocoa serving
area to warm you during the cold winter days.
Around the corner from these stairs (that have yet to be stained) is our family room…
…which I will reveal on Friday.
As you can see, this is where the mantel is…
And some other pretty things that I can’t wait to share.
So I hope you come back on Friday to see the
rest of our home as I join for the second time, the

Always a pleasure to see your Christmas decor! I fell in love with your tree last year. It is a live tree that you have flocked, or an artificial. If it is an artificial one, would you share where you purchased it and what model it was? Thanks so much! We have a live tree in our family room, but I would love a flocked artificial tree in the living room.

Lucy….your home is so warm and inviting. And whatever it is you wanted…you didn’t need. Your Christmas decor is pure perfection. 😉 I particularly love the woodland feel. Since I’m a tromper of the woods, too, it really feels homey. In case I missed it and someone else left you word…those lovely berries are actually rose hips. You know those lovely billowy white rose bushes that grow wild and look so pretty in June…yup…those are the hips to those rose flowers. Last year I picked some and wore the wrong coat. I was like velcro to those prickery bushes….and there wasn’t anyone around to get me out of my predicament. I bet if someone was watching they would have split up laughing. Finally I got out….with my prize rose hips. But…I’ll never do that again. That is wear anything besides a sturdy barn coat. 😉 I’ll always go for rose hips. 😉
Merry Christmas…and may your season be filled with HIS perfect peace.
