Good day to you my friends! Here we are once again welcoming the end of another week. I know I say this often, but it always seems to amaze me how fast time goes. As I sit here on my bed listening to the tick tack of the keyboard, my mind plays back all the events of the week and I wonder if I really took advantage of time.
Did I hug enough or laugh enough? Did I make the best of my time with my loved ones? Or did I just allow routine to dictate my every move?
Many times I find myself thinking about that last good bye to my kids before they jump out the car and hurriedly disappear into a crowd of energetic children. Why didn’t I wake up ten minutes earlier so I could have hugged them a little longer before leaving? Or why didn’t I kiss my husband passionately before he left for work?
Life should not be about regrets and yet we all have something we regret. Why didn’t I? I shouldn’t have…I should have. What if? Living in the past is impossible, yet we can learn from it and live in the now knowing what we know and therefore make the future better.
In real life, we cannot go back in time or into the future, but here in this little happy place of mine. I took this shiny new bucket and sped up time so to make it well loved and weathered.
I painted it lightly with turquoise and allowed it to dry. I then used my fingers to apply some wall compound throughout randomly (the thickness and texture of the compound makes the bucket look corroded). I then played with various shades of browns, oranges and reds, until I achieved the desired look.
It looks like this little bucket has been through a lot, doesn’t it? I achieved the ‘chippy’ look by ripping small pieces of paper towel and sticking it right onto the wet paint. I allowed some of it to lift off the bucket and think the results are pretty realistic.
Just playing with the camera’s aperture…
I love this year’s dry Hydrangeas from my mom’s garden.
TIP: If you add a little bit of Glycerin to the water while the Hydrangeas are fresh, they will retain some of their pliability and won’t be as brittle once they dry.
Here is a close up of the ‘rust’. Notice how I painted the bottom a darker shade of brown…
The good thing about this faux rust is that it can safely sit on my dinner table, if I choose to do a fall table vignette…
Or if you want to add it to your fall display outside you could simply add a coat of varnish…
Well my dears, that’s all I have for now. I am so eager to show you something I started a while ago and it’s getting closer to being completed. I will be posting a sneak peak over at my facebook page.
I want to say thank you to those who have joined me there already. My wish for the Craftberry Bush page is for it to be as interactive as possible; a place where we can get to know each other; a place where you can share what’s on your mind. From fitness, family, crafts and just about anything to do with this daily life of ours.
As always, thank you for your company, you make my time here so enjoyable.
much love,
Lucy
ps. For the month of October, I will be using pink font to bring awareness to breast cancer month. xo

OH my goodness, that looks great! I am definitely filing this away. So realistic!
I did have one question — you said you put paper towel into the paint. Do you leave it there? Or pull it back off? I’m dying to try this at home!
Thanks!

LOVE this project!!! I agree, it’s so much cleaner and safer than a real rust bucket – excellent solution and a marvelous job, as always.

I try not to dwell on the what-ifs because otherwise it will drive me crazy. I try to enjoy every moment of time even though there are times when the mundane just weighs me down.
I wish I could join you on FB but because of my dil’s profession I cannot be part of it. I will have to bide my time and see what you have been up to…..Happy Friday- We are on the road still traveling- xo Diana

I adore my visits here. I always feel soothed, refreshed and inspired. Thank you so much for sharing your talents and heart with us.
I think it’s brilliant what you did to the bucket. My daughter’s wedding is coming up in December and she wants “rustic elegant”, so I just might rustify some pails myself 🙂
Also, thanks for the mention about breast cancer awareness as my mother is currently living with stage 4 terminal breast cancer. We know we have limited time left with her as it’s gone to her bones, her liver and her lungs. She’s being brave and doing oral chemo, but it’s difficult watching the side effects, knowing it’s just a matter of time before the cancer finds a way around it. Time is precious…
Sorry so long…just wanted you to know I love your spot on the web, and so glad I found you.

You did a wonderful job as usual. Such talent you have.
My mother is undergoing treatments for stage 2 breast cancer as we speak. God bless all of the women who are dealing with breast cancer and their loved ones who are standing with them.
