The wise owl recycles…(my thoughts on a Wednesday afternoon)

A wise old owl sat in an oak,
The more he heard, the less he spoke;
The less he spoke, the more he heard;
Why aren’t we all like that wise old bird?

Wisdom sometimes comes to you as life lessons.  It is up to you whether or not you want to treasure that wisdom, learn from it and pass it on, or ignore it and let it pass you by. 

According to a 2001 report of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), roughly 1.5 million tons of plastic are expended in the bottling of 89 billion liters of water each year.
The amount of plastic recycling is down to 19% in 2003 from 53% in 1994, most of which can be blamed on the low rate of recycling water bottles.

Only about 13% of water bottles are recycled, leaving tens of millions to go to landfills and become waste.  Simply recycling will help to keep plastic water bottles out of landfills.
Sometimes I picture God with his head hanging down with dissapointment, and asking , “what have you done to your beautiful home, I lovingly created for you?”
To me, loving God also means loving his creation. I pray that he gives me the wisdom to appreciate and do my part in taking care of this beautiful place called Earth.

  5. Only YOU would come up with that! Is that the cutest bottle owl you ever saw, or what? You weren’t using that soda (from the bottle) for a mixer for rum were you?   17. I’m filled with awe when I remember that God didn’t HAVE to make the world beautiful… Lilacs don’t have to smell as sweet as they do. Sunlight doesn’t have to stream down from the clouds in shafts of heavenly light. Tree branches don’t have to weave lace patterns against the sky.

    But He CHOSE to create these beautiful things… to display His goodness, because He loves us and wants us to savor the beauty of His creation. When I think of these things, I wonder how we can do anything but respect His creation and be good stewards of our Father’s world.

    Thank you for sharing your words of beauty and these lovely, seasonal up-cycling projects. Both have inspired me.

  36. Hi Lucy! This is such a wonderful idea! We have an excess of bottles and electronic junks already I think this is just one of the ways how to get creative with it.

    PS. What paint did you use for the oil? Did you spray it with a fixative to let the paint stay? Thanks, please let us me know how to do this step by step. Thank you!

  44. I love the owl. COuld go a step farther and add outside layer of paper clay to it and have a very permanent and more paintable surface. Paper mach owl!

  45. march09 if you get them together tape together with transparent tape. Put a thin layer of paper clay or paper mache pulp over all and let it air dry. The paper mache or paper clay will hold it together when dry.

  55. Interesting that all of these crafts we see posted on various site, lead us to places like this that never really have the instructions. Several people often claim to have designed the crafts but they all have the same photos and no one shares the instructions. Hmmm…..
