Dear Summer,
I love you!
It was Canada Day yesterday so we are enjoying a long weekend. And what better way to enjoy a summer long weekend than with a sweet slice of watermelon and some fresh berries? My family and I enjoy eating outside on our patio as the sound of the birds and the fresh air seem to make the food taste better. I personally like eating outside because I don’t have to sweep the crumbs off the floor after dinner…;)
The kiddies help set and clear the table at almost every meal. One day, they had left some scattered cutlery on the table and since my brain works in bizarre ways, I thought ‘wouldn’t it be a really cute to paint cutlery and plates on the table cloth?’. And so….
It’s nothing fancy or complicated; just 4 circles to represent the plates and some simple silhouettes of spoons scattered across the table. No artistic ability required for this one.
You can have so much fun with this. You can draw several plates, forks and knives. Decorated plates, different coloured utensils…etc.
I actually intend to do this again as I should
have drawn five plates and not four 🙁
I think this simple, yet bright table
setting would make anyone smile…
Watermelon cake anyone?
I don’t own a ball scooper so I used a teaspoon measuring
spoon (so the balls are not perfect but you get the idea).
I hope this very inexpensive project will inspire you to create and make your surroundings bright and happy!
To my fellow Canadians – Happy Canada Day!
And to my American cousins – Happy 4th of July!
much love,
Lucy

Yeah…easy for YOU to say…easy..just slap a circle of paint on. Ummm…have you watched MOST people slap a circle of paint on something? It comes out looking like an OVAL…or worse a BLOB! No thank you…I am NOT painting my tablecloth…hmmm..maybe I should just do it on the table top instead? (that WAS a joke) And you want US to paint forks and spoons and things on there too?! Are you kidding me? I can barely HOLD them let alone paint some!
Okay- you are, once again, a very clever girl! xo Diana

Your tablecloth is wonderful! I had to look at it a few times to catch your artistic handiwork–I thought those were real spoons! Hey, Lucy, I want to dye some silk flowers I have for this Sat. The only dyes I can find look like I have to send for them. Do you know of anything that will work that is easy to get ahold of? I would like to dye flowers from white to maybe yellow/gold, possibly blue. I was even thinking of dipping them in watered down craft paint.

I’m loving that table cloth! The shade of blue is lovely and the idea of painting the plates are very cool.

Happy belated Canada Day! Although I live in MI, I have many friends in Windsor and I’ve celebrated lots of Canada Day & 4th of July long weekends once upon a time:) The tablecloth is beautiful, but the watermelon looks amazing! Now I’m off to figure out where I put my melon scooper!

Such a sweet, clever way to serve watermelon. I can’t wait to do it myself. Thanks for the great idea!

I just had bariatric surgery and wont be able to have cake on my birthday next month, but I think this is just the ticket! A nice, juicy dish of melon & berries for myself & my guests! Yum! Thanks for the inspiration.
