Sculpting is like giving life to a clump of clay, it fills my heart with laughter and joy.
The best gifts I have ever received are often those which were handmade. Or those gifts that while not fancy or expensive, have great meaning behind them because the person has taken the time to find out your favourite colour or your favourite material. Those are the gifts that touch your heart.
As Christmas day approaches and time to buy the perfect gift appears to be running out, here is an easy homemade gift for your neighbours, teachers or perhaps as a hostess gift.
I made these hot cocoa jar gifts for my children’s teachers.
For a little extra whimsy, the children and I made salt dough cookies. I painted this one with a mixture of glue, paint and cornstarch to give it a real icing look and texture. It looks good enough to eat, doesn’t it?
This little ballerina mouse sits on top of the jar, which I covered with felt. She is ready to open some presents. Lucky girl!
Clay is my favourite medium. I promise you that once you start using it, you won’t be able to stop.
I cut out a little tag from paper stock. For the teacher’s presents, I want the kiddies to use their own handwriting to add a personalized message.
This little guy is having his own cup of cocoa. Would you like to see how easy he was to make? I have prepared a tutorial to share with you and will post it in days to come.
He’s covered in snow and deserves a nice warm drink….notice his little cup of cocoa has tini marshmallows floating on top and a itti bitti candy cane.
Another handmade tag with coordinating colours.
This jar holds candy canes and peppermint candies…yummy
Here is another look at the jar toppers and some more of the faux sugar cookies. To make the sugar cookies, I mixed glue, paint and cornstarch. I don’t know the exact amounts or why I used those ingredients; I just figure things out as I go along and most of the time it makes the cut…:o)
This is Isabella’s creation
And Tristan decided he wanted to make his teacher a necklace instead. This is his Christmas mouse.
Here is another look at the ‘sugar cookie’. I have never piped a cookie in my life and used a little zip-lock baggie and the crazy mixture of ingredients. I can’t wait to try making real cookies with real icing and real materials (I think I have found a new pastime).
I have been feeling in my heart the need to say ‘thank you’ for your visits and for watering this little Craftberry Bush with your wonderful comments. The first thing I do when I log into my little blog is to check your comments and I smile from ear to ear every time I read your words.
So, thank you so much for your visits; I really do appreciate them.
Wishing you a ‘clayful’ day,
Lucy

I stumbled upon your blog from Linda’s coastal living, I was visiting Pink Sat. girls and truly fell off the wagon lol.
Your site is just beautiful. I adore you sweet jars. I’ve never played with salt dough, but my husband started making bread!! I would love the recipe. I should go back and check to see if you’ve posted it. My kids are all grown up, but I think I know some “blogging friends” that would truly appreciate these cute little jars and creatures ; ).
You are very very talented.
Happy Pink Sat, I see a lot of sweet pink in your blog, but especially the little mouse.
