One table, a couple of tweaks & three different looks….

I am not an interior designer by trade, nor do I know the official interior design ‘rules’.  But I believe that when you put your heart into your decorating, there are no rules to follow and the only limitations are the ones you place upon yourself. 
Unless you’re expecting the Queen for dinner, who says knives should be placed with the water glass to the extreme left?  Or that your silverware should be lined up in the order for which they will be used, working from left to right? (not only do we not follow that rule, I didn’t even know it was a rule…thanks Google for enlightening me once again). 
I am sure some of you are cringing at my table setting placement.  But before you get the urge to send me an etiquette comment, please accept my apology in advance and know that this is not meant to be a post on proper table setting.
I just hope I can provide a lil’ bit of inspiration on fall table decor as your Thanksgiving holiday approaches (I say ‘yours’ as we have already celebrated Thanksgiving here in Canada).
By using items from around the house and bringing some nature inside, you can set a warm and inviting table.
I have created three different looks by changing minor details here and there.

First Look: A Pink Fall
Who said Fall had to be just orange and browns (?)
This is a simple scrapbooking tag that I glued to a piece of twine and placed orange berries with to tie in with the fall theme.
Everyone has seen Martha carve out pumpkins and use them as tea light holders and flower arrangement containers.  Well here is another one (not living in a climate that is warm year round, I opted to use ‘artificial’ flowers, but appreciate many beautiful flowers of all colours are readily available in a local flower shop).
I wanted to show that by simply placing a sheet of scrapbook paper under the plates, you can tie it all together.
Here is a closer look at the scrapbook paper.  You can obviously choose from an array of available papers, but this just happened to be one I had on hand.
Second Look:  A Blue Hydrangea
Remember this?  The hues of the blue plate match beautifully with the hydrangea and the browns of the butterfly tie in with the acorns and the fall theme.

I used the same pumpkin and added some wild berries that we had found while on a nature walk.


 

This beautiful butterfly was purchased at our local dollar store ($1 for a pack of 4!).  I incorporated the berries and I love the way it looks.

Third Look: The Classic Fall

I know you’ve seen this plate before.

Again, I have used items from around the house. There is another familiar face.

Some acorns, twigs and of course some leaves

For this simple look, I left the twine, added a twig and used a leaf as the name tag

Here is another old item (this was given to my husband when he was born)

A vintage glass that was given to me by my father-in-law aids in the colour scheme.

And there you have it.  With minimal effort and a little imagination, you can create many different feels to a table.
It doesn’t matter whether you have a lavish table with crystals and fine china or you serve your food on paper plates and use plastic forks.  What is most important is the company and the new memories you will make while sharing a meal together.
I know that in our family, the dinner table always serves as the venue for our most memorable conversations.

  6. Each of the vignettes you’ve created is quite unique and quite lovely. I love how you mixed the seasonal elements up and bent the rules of “proper” table settings. I had to laugh when I read that.

I love how you should these different approaches to the same concept and especially loved the names on the leaves as well as the candle stacked on the pumpkin inside the lantern!
