Hello everyone! I hope you had a great weekend.
Today I am kicking off Tastes of the Seasons – Autumn Edition
with some of my dear friends:
It’s Sunday evening and my fingers are once again doing their familiar dance over the keyboard. I can hear footsteps upstairs as my husband helps our youngest son pack for his first school trip away from home.
While he probably won’t be able to sleep from excitement, I will also be awake, but my lack of sleep will be from worrying and missing him. I am constantly reminded of how quickly time passes and how fast our children grow into their own independent beings. That seems to be a constant theme on my posts lately – the need to cherish each moment with those I love. Though it is not always easy – it’s something that’s so important to us.
Every season lends us so many beautiful props to make memorable moments and autumn is no exception. Today, we set up a little make your own caramel apple bar. It was messy and sticky, but oh so very sweet and especially fun.
I find it funny the kiddies don’t question ‘why’ when I send them out to the front yard to gather leaves and scatter them on the table. I guess they are so used to the crazy messes their mom makes while taking photos. And as they’re getting older, I love that they now have their own input as to where to position certain items.
The thing is, I have always done this sort of thing; even before I knew what a blog was. I have always needed our kids to feel loved and special by going that little extra mile for them; always trying to include them in everything as much as possible.
(A muffin tin to holds the toppings – brown sugar and cinnamon, mini marshmallows, chopped peanuts, graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips, and Skor toffee bits)
Some are known flavours, some are made up. But all so yummy.
Apple S’more – Mini marshmallows, Graham cracker crumbs, chocolate chips and caramel
Toffee Caramel Peanut – White chocolate, chopped peanuts, Skor toffee bits and caramel
Peanut Caramel – Dark chocolate, caramel and chopped peanuts (for a healthier option, skip the caramel)
Coconut Chocolate – Dark chocolate and shredded coconut (healthy option)
Cheesecake – White chocolate, caramel, graham crackers and cinnamon brown sugar mix.
Apple Pie – White chocolate, caramel, cinnamon brown sugar mix
TIP: To prevent apples from turning brown, dip apple wedges in a carbonated drink (which contain citric acid) such as ginger ale, lemon-lime soda (Sprite).
Hubby cut some apples for me (he is so much neater) and inserted
a candy stick. We had store bought caramel and a mini fondue pot
holding the chocolate. It was as simple as dip, dip, coat, coat, and eat!

So fun!
Even though the healthier options were for me, my favourite is the
cheesecake. Which one do you think would be your favourite?

Lucy, these look wonderful! I need to do this with my boys! x

I love this idea Lucy, and so would my kids. They can never eat the whole apple, and with the small pieces they’d be able to try lots of different combos. Such a great idea.

Gonna do this for a fall themed baby shower this weekend!

Ok, so I love this idea, and even tried it once. But I did not have such good luck!! The juice from the apples prevented the Carmel from staying on the apple. I would dry the apple, but the juice would come back, like they were oozing? What did I do wrong?
Meri Symeon says
These are in fact fantastic ideas in regarding blogging. You have touched some good things here. Any way keep up wrinting.

dipping them in pineapple juice works too

How do you keep the chocolate melted for dipping?
Elaine scotton says
when we did this for a fall festival, the one thing that was difficult was that the caramel and chocolate wouldn’t stay on…kept slipping…does anyone have a solution. I know that it was due to it being damp…but when you cut them, they are juicy.
would love to do it again if I could come up with an idea to stop this from happening.
Sally says
Maybe dipping the apple slices in powdered sugar as the first step.

These were so delicious. We let the apples warm up to room temperature and had a great time. I linked to this in my Apple Play Date Planner

I love this idea, and your pictures are beautiful! I’ve got full on autumn envy (is that a thing?). I like caramel apples but I hate having to commit to an ENTIRE apple. Having individual slice sounds like a lot more fun. And so much variety!

We did a caramel apple bar at work for our monthly birthday celebration instead of the same old sheet cake. It was a huge hit! Your post really helped us pull it off!

Hi,
Did the coatings stay solid on the apple pieces? If so, how did you ensure they stayed?

This is such a heartwarming post! I love how you cherish every moment with your family and create such fun, memorable traditions. The caramel apple bar sounds delightful, almost as fun as Taco Bell’s delectable menu items. The apple pie combination is definitely calling my name!
